A Merry Quickie
Welcome to my random musings about the world, on a weekly-to-occasional basis.
Where we are: We’re headed for the beach today, to hang out with Toby for a few weeks and get away from the Bangkok smog. In lieu of an essay today, I have only a quick update.
A Merry Quickie
Thanks to Omicron, the Thai government hit pause this week on the re-opening of the country’s international tourism industry. Since we’re already here, it has no impact on us, for the moment. But it was a sharp reminder (as if we needed it) that travel continues to shift and change in sometimes unpredictable ways.
For now, quarantine has been reinstated for anyone entering the country. We would prefer to avoid doing that again (if we were to leave and come back, which we were considering), so we’re back to wait-and-see mode regarding our next plan. That’s okay; after two solid years of watching this thing play out, we have a pretty good feel for the cyclical rise and fall of waves. This too shall pass—eventually.
I finished the mandatory six weeks of physical therapy yesterday. I still can’t walk outside without the boot. The doctor here has set me a task: when I can do 15 one-legged squats (standing on my surgery leg) without holding on to anything, I can throw away the boot.
When I can do 50, I can run.
Hahahaha.
You give it a try—let me know how many you can do. No wobbling.
Merry Christmas and blessed be, y’all.
Take care,
Lisa
